Lecture notes

The order in which you meet a problem matters. We build from ideas you already understand, then choose questions that extend them, reveal their limits, or ask you to use them in a new setting.

That sequence takes judgement. Hercules and our curriculum team draw on their experience of Cambridge mathematics, STEP and olympiad problem solving to decide what belongs, what comes first, and when to introduce a harder question.

The notes and lectures follow the same progression. Worked examples explain the key decisions; exercises gradually ask you to make those decisions yourself. Each problem prepares you for the next, and ultimately for unfamiliar questions in the interview.

The team behind the course

Taught by Hercules, with a curriculum shaped by a team including a South Korean IMO national candidate. Our experience of Cambridge mathematics, STEP and olympiad problem solving informs the topics and examples we choose.

Course content

42 lectures across four topics.

In an Oxbridge interview, the discussion can begin before you have a complete solution. Hercules and our curriculum team approach these four topics with that in mind: finding a useful first observation, testing it, and explaining where it leads.
